In our great country with all it has achieved, when freedom of the press is guaranteed, I cannot believe that we have a media which are so noticeably biased to the left of center. During the Watergate scandal, the media pressed for and basically got President Nixon to resign. Today, the media are doing the opposite; they protect and promote a president with almost exactly the same charges against him. According to the media, a right-of-center president must go; a left-of-center president must stay.
An out-of-balance media like this distort political reality and deceive the public by pretending to be doing unbiased news reporting. As a result, the media have become like another branch of government, through their exercise, or more accurately their slanted exercise, of power to interpret and influence. The Founding Fathers, and rightly so, did not have in mind to have four branches of government. That is what balance of power is all about. Besides, we have not elected the press to act on our behalf. This is a problem which should concern all Americans.
