Utah StateMEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah State has announced the signing of its fifth basketball player for next season, with the addition of Chad Evans, a return LDS missionary from Ogden.

Evans, a Weber High product who originally signed with Loyola Marymount, will be a freshman next fall. The 6-foot-8, 210-pounder was a first-team all-state selection at Weber in 1997, when he averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game.

BYU

WOMEN'S HOOPS: A 114-point effort from Cady Williams was one bright spot as the Cougars fell 97-49 Thursday to UC Santa Barbara. BYU, now 3-3, continues its road swing through California with a Saturday game against Santa Clara.

Southern Utah

WOMEN'S HOOPS: Four Thunderbirds scored in double figures -- three had double-doubles -- to lead Southern Utah to its first Mid-Continent Conference win of the season, defeating Youngstown State, 87-78, Thursday night in Cedar City.

Senior Sunny Myers led all scorers with 21 points, connecting on four of seven three-point attempts.
