KEARNS -- It was upset night for the Kearns High basketball teams Thursday.
Despite a 30-point outing by Katrena Ellett of Cyprus, the Cougar girls, who are ranked No. 18 overall, pounded the 16th-ranked Pirates 64-49.Bekah Anderegg led the way for Kearns with 23 points, including five 3-pointers.
But the Cougar boys pulled off the biggest surprise by knocking off East High, which is ranked eighth in the Deseret News' Top 20 for all classifications.
Kearns hit 10 3-pointers, including one by Tyler Dalton with two seconds left, to beat the Leopards 50-48.
The win was the first for Kearns since the beginning of the 1997-98 season, snapping a 21-game losing streak.
Ian Mecham led the hot-shooting Cougars in the upset with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Bryan Wright added 12 points.
Noah Eyre led the Leopards with 21 points and three treys, while star center Lance Allred returned from an injury to score 11 points in the loss.
In other action Thursday:
MURRAY 42, JORDAN 33: Lindy Whitley scored 18 and Shannon Brown had 16 as the Spartans beat the Beetdiggers. Whitley also had eight rebounds and five assists, while Brown added seven boards.
LAYTON 73, HIGHLAND 42: Brittany Hazen hammered in 23 points with three threes as the Lancers won in lopsided fashion after outscoring Highland 32-12 in the first. Volleyball MVP Logan Tom led the Rams with 14 points.
ALTA 61, LONE PEAK 46: Lindsay Logan scored 16 points and had nine steals, while Cyrita Warner added 12 points and 13 rebounds to lift the Hawks. Lindsay Doxey had 13 points for the Knights.
TAYLORSVILLE 52, CARBON 22: Kari Satterfield continued her hot streak by scoring 24 points (two more than the Dinos) with four 3-points shots to lead the Warriors. Marie Worsham battled her way down low to 11 points.
WEST JORDAN 49, HILLCREST 27: Heidi Palmer scored 15 points to lead the balanced Jaguar attack.
OREM 54, PROVO 42: Kristen Saliby netted 20 points to boost the Tigers to the victory.
BOUNTIFUL 58, DAVIS 50: Hailey Mackay scored 20 points, had five rebounds, five blocked shots and four steals in leading the Braves past the Darts. Jenny Pierce added 16 points in the win. Melanie Rasmussen of Davis also scored 20 with three 3-pointers.
COPPER HILLS 62, PLEASANT GROVE 41: Linda Sanberg had a dominating all-around perforamnce capped by her 15 points in helping the Grizzlies win on the road.
BEAR RIVER 62, BOX ELDER 59 (OT): Natalie Furman was a monster on the boards as she pulled down 21 rebounds while scoring 14 points to boost the Bears to the slim win.
MORGAN 46, EAST 24: Staci Barlow and Jen Kennedy split 20 points and the Trojans used tough defense to stuff the Leopards, who didn't score in the third quarter and only had seven points in the first half.
BEN LOMOND 51, GRANTSVILLE 39: Darla Washington led the Scots' attack with 11 points. Grantsville's Heather Gambell had six steals and five rebounds in the defeat.
LEHI 66, TIMPANOGOS 60: Lacy Yates scored 22 points and hauled in 10 rebounds and guard Kelly Trane had nine points and 11 rebounds as the Pioneers got by the Timberwolves.
DELTA 57, PARK CITY 34: Natalie Losee helped the Rabbits rock the Miners by scoring 16 points. Amy Scofield had 13 for Park City.
TABIONA 54, EAST CARBON 44: Shelly Price hit three 3-pointers en route to a 21-point outing for the Tigers. Tabiona's Tara Harris totaled 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Becky Pierce scored 15 for East Carbon.
DUCHESNE 56, NORTH SUMMIT 48: Shann Green drilled four treys and scored 18 points as the Eagles soared. Shanna Mullins added 10 for Duchesne.

CLEARFIELD 55, JUDGE 39: Halley Barker scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Falcons, who benefited from 16 points by Betsy Beutler and nine boards by Jen Banach. Kim Constantinesco led the Bulldogs with 16 points.
TOOELE 49, COTTONWOOD 36: Leah Roberts scored 17 points and Kenzie Briggs chipped in with 10 as the Buffs bucked the Colts.

MILFORD 34, WASATCH ACADEMY 33: Amanda Gilbert scored 13 points for Wasatch Academy, but the Tigers escaped with the road win as a potential game-winning shot went awry with nine seconds left.
WAYNE 64, PIUTE 32: Kali Taylor almost equaled the Thunderbirds' total herself as she poured in 29 points for the Badgers.
PANGUITCH 60, ESCALANTE 22: The Bobcats almost tripped the Moqui Indians as Lisa Duff scored 17 and Camille Christensen 14.

BEN LOMOND 80, CARBON 45: Shaud Lauder helped the Scots advance to the championship game by scoring 16 points. Twelve other Ben Lomond players scored in the balanced outing.
LOGAN 79, ST. JOSEPH 27: K.C. Comadena downed three 3-pointers and scored 19 points as the Grizzlies mauled the undermanned Jayhawks.
