ST.GEORGE, UTAH--Erich William Foerster, 93, passed away December 2, 1998 at his home in St. George, Utah.

He was born October 28, 1905 in Dresden, Saxony, Germany, a son of Friedrich Wilhelm and Flora Olga Mauermann Foerster. He married Anna Erickson June 1, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died September 23, 1997. Erich was reared and educated in Germany until age 16. He then came to Utah, traveling by himself at age 16. He retired as a manager at ZCMI, after many years of service. He came to St. George around 1978. He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many capacities including a bishopric. He loved working in the extraction program and attending the Temple.Erich loved gardening and building things. He was always a gentleman. He was a happy, cheerful man and had a sweet sense of humor. He was a kind, peaceful man and never raised his voice. His great joy was his family, he loved and served them.

They will always miss him, and will be grateful to him for his teachings and righteous example.

Erich is survived by his four daughters: Elaine (husband, Hal) Brown, of Farmington, UT; Arlene (husband, Bill) Mickelsen, of St. George; Maureen Hughes, of Portland, OR; Lucy (husband, Mike) Caldwell, of Kennesaw, Georgia; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Hans Foerster, Frieda Schwampe, both of Salt Lake City; Martha Coleman, of Midvale; Elsa Baechler, Otto (wife, Ilse) Foerster, both of Salt Lake City. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Max Wilhelm Foerster and Richard Forster.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 4, 1998 at 6 p.m. at Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, 110 South Bluff. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Elysian Burial Gardens in Salt Lake City under the direction of Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, St. George, UT-673-2454.
