Perry Edmund Gooch, 86, passed away Dec. 2, 1998 in Salt Lake City, Utah due to complications resulting from Parkinson's Disease and Cancer.
Born Sept. 17, 1912 in Marysville, Idaho, son of Joseph Orlando and Grace Mildred Gooch. Married Maline Tippets, May 24, 1939 in the Logan, Utah Temple. She preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 1994.Perry was an educator and principal for over 40 years, where he influenced the lives of hundreds of young people, as well as those teachers who worked with him. He retired from the Mesa Public School system in 1978. Perry was also a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He provided service and leadership throughout his life in several callings, which included home teacher, High Priest Group Leader, stake Sunday School president, High Councilman and Bishop. Perry and Maline served together for 10 years as temple workers in the Mesa, Arizona Temple, where he also served as a temple sealer. Working in the temple was one of his greatest joys.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who will be remembered for his quiet, unassuming ways, his wonderful sense of humor and his great ability to repair anything broken. His legacy to his posterity is a rich one filled with love of God and family, his abiding faith and service to God, and the greatest lesson of all - enduring to the end. He did not fear death and looked forward to being reunited with his beloved companion, Maline.
He is survived by his three sons and one daughter, 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. They are Gary T. (Sharee) Gooch of Tucson, Arizona; Neal T. (Terry) Gooch of Bountiful, Utah; Perry L. (Consuelo) Gooch of Farmington, New Mexico; Kay (Jeff) Cox of Salt Lake City, Utah. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother. They are Grace Ann Carter of California; Nola Purcell of Idaho; Keith Gooch of Idaho.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday at the Holladay 1st Ward, 4568 South Holladay Boulevard, Holladay, Utah at 3 p.m. on December 5, 1998. A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday, December 4, 1998 from 6-8 p.m. at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 Highland Drive, Utah and at 1:45-2:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment will be in the Holladay Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you donate to the National Parkinson Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
The family also wishes to thank the doctors and staff at the Veterans Administration Hospital and the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home for their kindness and compassionate care.
