Leonard Ray Jones, age 81, died December 3, 1998 of stroke complications.

He was born October 12, 1917 in Way, Idaho to John Benjamin and Bernice Alice Coles Jones. He was married to Veda Whitehead January 22, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple by David O. McKay.An active member of the LDS Church, he served an LDS Mission to the Southern States and was a Seventy for 25 years before his ordination as a High Priest. He was a World War II Veteran serving in the Pacific Theater. He retired after 35 years of employment with Safeway Stores, Inc. He loved camping, hiking, and other activities, especially rollerskating which he did until age 79.

Survived by his wife, Veda, Salt Lake City; children: Galen R. (Pat) Jones, Sandy, Utah; Valene (Larry) Benson and Jaren L.(Debbie) Jones, both of West Valley City; Janell (Don) Neumann, Bountiful and Cindy (Charles) Watkins, Malad, Idaho; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Frank B. Jones, Cottonwood; sister, Mary Alice Cloward, Yuba City, California. Preceded in death by parents and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 7, 1998 at 12 noon in the Nibley Park Ward, 2450 South 600 East. Friends may call at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Sunday 6-8 p.m. and Monday at the ward 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment, Larkin Sunset Lawn Cemetery.
