Robert J. Stringham, Kaysville, chief financial officer for the State Retirement Systems and long-time Scouter, was recently elected president of the Trapper Trails Council, Boy Scouts of America.
A member of the executive board 10 years and vice president since 1994, Stringham succeeds Clesse Hilton, Kaysville, who will continue as a vice president over camping and properties.The council has headquarters in Ogden but has trading posts in Logan, Rock Springs, Wyo., and the Newgate Mall in Ogden.
Some 43,300 youths in northern Utah, southeastern Idaho and southwestern Wyoming are enrolled in Trapper Trails. It is the 19th largest (in terms of numbers of youths) and the third largest (for Scouting units) among more than 300 councils in the United States.
Trapper Trails has 2,849 Scouting units and 17,167 adult volunteer leaders. Gerald C. Cole, Preston, Idaho, is council commissioner. C. Bradford Allen, Scout executive, leads a corps of 22 professional Scouters.
Stringham is an Eagle Scout, a Silver Beaver recipient and received training at Philmont National BSA Training Center in New Mexico. He was council Explorer chairman, is a recipient of a District Award of Merit and the William H. Spurgeon Exploring Award. He was an officer in the Army, including service in Korea, has been a PTA president and is active in his church.
