A group of protesters -- calling themselves Red Cloud Thunder -- use climbing ropes as aerial walkways between treetops on a 96-acre plot of forest land on Fall Creek, east of Salem, Ore., last week. Since April, hundreds of tree-sitters have inhabited about eight trees at a time to protest a sale of old-growth timber in the Forest Service's Clark Timber sale, which Eugene-based Zip-O Log Co. bought at auction in March.
