BLACKFOOT, Idaho -- Clark County's newly elected court clerk was found dead in a motel room a day after being charged with grand theft.

Vickie Ker, 40, was to be sworn in as clerk in January.Police have not released information on the cause of death. They responded to a call Wednesday about a possible death at the Best Western Blackfoot Inn, where Ker's body was found.

An autopsy was scheduled for today.

Ker had been arrested Tuesday on a charge of grand theft after an investigation by the Clark County Sheriff's Office and the Tri-county Sheriff's Association. She was suspected of embezzling money from the Clark County True Value Hardware Store in Dubois, where she was a manager.

Ker, who won the November election for clerk over two write-in candidates with 191 votes, leaves a husband and two daughters.
