ESCALANTE, Garfield County -- The first of several public meetings on the draft management plan and environmental impact statement relative to the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument are getting under way.

Meetings have been scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Bryce Valley High School in Tropic and Thursday, Dec. 10, at the town hall in Big Water. One meeting has already been held in Escalante.Printed copies or CD-ROM versions of the document are available.
