SAN FRANCISCO -- Gerald Zimmerman scored nine of his team-high 17 points during a decisive 15-0 run late in the second half, leading San Francisco past Weber State 67-60 in the championship game of the Northwestern Mutual Classic.
San Francisco (7-1) held the Wildcats scoreless over an 8-miunute, 17-second stretch stretch of the second half after Harold Arceneaux's basket with 8:59 to play had given Weber State (4-2) a 52-47 lead.Zimmerman, held to just three points in the first half, then caught fire. He scored six straight points to put USF ahead, 53-52, then added a 3-pointer during another 7-0 spurt as the Dons went up 61-52 with 4:59 remaining to take control.
Weber State did not score again until Arceneaux hit two free throws with 42 seconds to play. He led all scorers with 24 points.
Despite being held scoreless over an eight-minute stretch of the first half, San Francisco recovered to lead 30-28 at halftime.
The Wildcats scored 13 straight points to lead 15-6 after a three-point play by Andy Jensen with 12:56 left in the half, but the Dons answered with a 9-0 run of their own.
