With preseason All-America Richard Hamilton struggling with his shooting for the second straight game, the Huskies got 20 points from point guard Khalid El-Amin, 17 from sophomore center Jake Voskuhl and 16 from power forward Kevin Freeman. Next: at Massachusetts, Wednesday.

3 North Carolina (8-1) Lost to College of Charleston 66-64. At Charlotte, N.C., Danny Johnson hit a follow shot with one-tenth of a second left as the College of Charleston surprised North Carolina 66-64 Saturday night. Johnson's basket capped the Cougars' comeback from eight points down with 12 minutes left in the final game of the Food Lion MVP Classic, and it gave him 11 points in what arguably was the biggest victory in the history of the program. 4 Duke (7-1) Beat N.C. State 89-69. At Durham, N.C., Duke began its chase for a third straight Atlantic Coast Conference regular-season title by rolling over turnover-prone North Carolina State. Elton Brand led the way with a career-high 26 points, while ACC scoring leader Trajan Langdon added 17 for the Blue Devils who won their 25th straight in steamy Cameron Indoor Stadium. 6 Cincinnati (5-0) Beat Oakland Mich. 106-78. At Cincinnati, The Bearcats set a school record by hitting 24 3-point shots in their home opener. Steve Logan and Melvin Levett each scored 28. Next: vs. Southwestern Louisiana, Saturday.

7 Kansas (5-1) Beat Pepperdine 62-55. At Anaheim, Calif., Kenny Gregory scored 13 points and Ryan Robertson had 10 of his 12 in the second half as the seventh-ranked Kansas Jayhawks defeated the stubborn Pepperdine Waves 62-55 in the opener of the Wooden Classic. Next: vs. Iowa, Tuesday.

8 Kentucky (7-1) Beat Miami 74-65. At Lexington, Ky., Scott Padgett broke out of a shooting slump with three key 3-pointers and Michael Bradley scored a career-high 19 points as Kentucky held off Miami. Next: vs. Indiana, Tuesday.

10 Temple (4-3) Lost to No. 16 Indiana 63-62. At Bloomington, Ind., A.J. Guyton, off target from 3-point range for most of the game, connected with 5.5 seconds left as Indiana rallied to beat Temple. Indiana overcame a nine-point deficit in the final eight minutes as Temple dropped its second consecutive one-point decision after losing for the first time this season 73-70 at Pennsylvania in overtime. 11 Oklahoma State (4-2) Lost to No. 18 UCLA 69-66. At Los Angeles, Sophomore Baron Davis got a hand on a tying 3-pointer by Joe Adkins with eight seconds remaining as the Bruins held on to upset the Cowboys 69-66 Saturday in the second game of the Wooden Classic. 12 Syracuse (7-1) Beat Santa Clara 95-75. At Syracuse, N.Y., Jason Hart scored 14 points and Preston Shumpert added 13 as Syracuse breezed past Santa Clara in the consolation game of the Carrier Classic. Next: at West Virginia, Wednesday.

13 Arizona (4-0) Beat Wyoming 94-84. At Phoenix, Jason Terry scored 29 points and A.J. Bramlett 24, both career highs, as Arizona stormed from nine points down in the final 13 1/2 minutes to beat Wyoming. Oklahoma delivered on coach Kelvin Sampson's promise that the Sooners would play better than they did in a loss last week to Murray State, in which they were outrebounded 46-23.
