Score: Air Force 20, BYU 13

Record: 9-4 overall, 7-2 WACOffense: Statistics can be deceiving. The Cougars rolled up 390 yards of total offense and 29 first downs but managed just 13 points. That'll happen when a team fails to convert on four of its trips inside the red zone. And it didn't help matters that quarterback Kevin Feterik, who wound up completing 20 of 42 passes for 258 yards, was sacked seven times. Grade: C+

Defense: A dominating effort will forever be soiled by Matt Farmer's 59-yard touchdown reception with 3:49 remaining. He was untouched on the game-winning score after catching two BYU defensive backs out of position. All other things considered, the Cougars did an outstanding job. Air Force managed just 11 first downs and 111 yards rushing -- 169 below its average. Derik Stevenson topped the charts with 13 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Grade: B

Special teams: The first indication it wasn't going to be BYU's day came when the usually sure-footed Owen Pochman clanked his first field-goal attempt (a 37-yarder) off the left upright. His next kick, from 35 yards out, was blocked. Pochman wound up making two, but it wasn't enough to lift BYU to victory. The Cougars covered kicks fairly well -- Stevenson blocked a PAT -- but their punting game was marginal, at best. Grade: C
