SWIMMING: Placing first in three relays and taking second in four individual races, the BYU women's swimming team took first at the Speedo Cup invitational, which ran from Thursday to Saturday. BYU's men's team took first in two individual races and finished in the top three in all its relays to place third overall.Senior Sarah McKeever and junior Hanalee Hawkins led the women's team with top-three finishes in three events. McKeever took second in the 200 IM and third in the 400 IM and 200 butterfly. Hawkins finished second in two events -- the 100 free and 100 back -- and third in the 50 free. Mary Duffin finished the 400 IM just ahead of McKeever for second place and just behind her for third in the 200 IM.
The Cougars led three of five relay races, taking first in the 200 medley, 200 free and 800 free relays. The 400 medley relay team finished second and the 400 free team was third.
Sophomore Arunas Savickas led the men's team with a first-place finish in the 500 free and second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 back. Dmitri Malinovski took first in the 100 breast and second in the 200 breast.
Relays were also a scoring strength for the men, who placed third in all of their relays except the 800 free, in which they took second.

UVSC BASKETBALL: Utah Valley State College improved to 11-0 on the year with a 95-68 win over Eastern Utah Saturday. The Wolverines jumped out to a 24-5 lead and never trailed. Danny Brotherson led the way with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. In the women's game played before the men tipped off, UVSC's Tiffany Massey scored 29 points to lead her club to a 72-57 win over Eastern Utah.
