SYRACUSE -- The police department is studying speed limits in the city, hoping to make them more consistent.

The City Council has directed police to study speed limits and make a proposal early next year.Besides some limits being considered too high, the Council would prefer that they are uniform for the same street.

However, neighboring cities have their own -- and different -- speed limits.

For example, the speed limit on 2700 South is 35 mph in Syracuse, but it increases to 40 mph in Layton on the east.

The Council is also frustrated at the variance in speed limits on 1700 South, but it may have to live with those because it's a state highway.

&#149: The city is also studying revisions to its weed control ordinance that would make it easier to enforce.
