OTTER ROCK, Ore. (AP) -- A bus crashed through a guard rail Tuesday after the driver died of an apparent heart attack, and only trees stopped the vehicle from plunging down a 400-foot slope. None of the 11 passengers suffered major injury.
State police said the Greyhound bus from Crescent City, Calif., veered across U.S. 101 at about 5:30 a.m., coming to rest against the trees growing on the slope above the Pacific Ocean beach."They were very fortunate," said police spokesman Gary Jones. "The bus went through the guardrail and went over the side. The trees stopped its further movement. The trees grow straight up that cliff."
The passengers, some of whom had minor bumps and bruises, were taken off the bus by rescue crews.
The 57-year-old driver was not immediately identified.
