Following a courageous battle with cancer, Mary Dawn Huggins, 78, returned to the loving arms of her Father in Heaven, Sunday, December 6, 1998, while surrounded by her family.
Born December 29, 1919 in Avon, Utah, to James B. Jensen and Mary Jane Burrell Jensen, the ninth of 12 children, she was raised in Penrose, Utah and attended Bear River High School. She married Theron Claire Huggins, December 29, 1938. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They were later divorced.A devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she gave a lifetime of service to the Relief Society, Mutual Improvement Association, Primary and Sunday School organizations. She served as a missionary and seminary teacher for the Intermountain Indian Branch. She believed those who do the Lord's work receive the Lord's pay.
She was known as "Mary Sunshine" to the residents of local nursing homes, where she was employed for many years and continued to service as a caregiver long after her retirement. With an insatiable thirst for knowledge, she was an avid reader an member of Simada Study Group. Her many talents include cooking, oil painting, music, sewing, gardening and entertaining. She was just plain fun and could be counted to lighten the mood, decorate the surroundings and whistle while she worked. She loved her family and her Father in Heaven with all her heart, and was a living testament that "Goodness is its own reward".
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Leo, Charles and Orson Jensen, her sisters, Ethel Spiers, Rosalene Lawrence, and Mildred Esleksen. She is survived by her children, Max Claire Huggins (Dot), Mary Linda Beecher (Kent), Millie Bess (Noel), all of Brigham City; Martha Bullock (Dennis), Providence; Dawn Keller (RIchard), Pocatello, Idaho; Gloria Hellewell (Read), Bountiful; Joe Huggins, Salt Lake City; Mark Huggins (Elizabeth), Layton; her brothers, Carl Jensen, Logan; Blaine Jensen, Plain City; sisters, Martha Taylor, Brigham City; Blanche Taylor and Evelyn Petersen, Kearns; 43 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
All who knew and loved her, bid a fond farewell to their precious "Mary Sunshine".
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 9th, 11 a.m. in the Brigham City Central Ward, 420 South 800 West. A viewing will be Tuesday, December 8th, 6-8 p.m. at Petersen Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
