Amid a light snowstorm Tuesday night, Kristie and Michelle Overson (wife and daughter of Salt Lake County Commissioner Brent Overson), combine winter pleasures by indulging in a snowball fight while purchasing a Christmas tree at Fashion Place Mall parking lot. Salt Lake Valley had 2 to 3 inches of "very fluffy snow," said William J. Alder, meteorologist in charge of the National Weather Service regional office. With an 11-degree temperature Wednesday morning, the low for the season, the snow turned to hazardous black ice on some roads. Tooele had 4 inches of snow on top of 14 inches that fell Sunday night in a classic lake-effect snowstorm. For more about lake effect storms, see today's Science/Technology Section.
