LAYTON -- The City Council has approved an addendum to its solid-waste-collection contract, approving Waste Connections as the new hauler to replace the retiring Roche and Sons Service.
According to Layton finance director Steve Ashby, the best news of the deal is that Layton is guaranteed the same hauling rates for the next 3 1/2 years."The current fee will continue through the end of the contract," Ashby said.
The new agreement extends the current city basic garbage contract to August 2000, with an option of two additional years.
Ashby expects residents to see little difference in their garbage service outside the new name on trucks in coming months. However, the new company expects to have the financial strength to bring more garbage trucks to the city.
