RETIRED NAVY ADMIRAL STARTS JOB AS ALLIANT CEO ON JAN. 1

Paul Miller, a retired Navy admiral, will become chairman of the board of directors and CEO of Alliant Techsystems on Jan. 1.Alliant Techsystems is a $1.1 billion aerospace and defense company

headquartered in Hopkins, Minn. It employs 1,500 people at its Bacchus Works plant in Magna and 300 other Utahns at its facility in Clearfield.

Miller, 56, currently heads Litton Industries' Marine Systems and is president of Sperry Main Inc. He joined Litton in 1944 after a 30-year career in the U.S. Navy.

Miller will replace Richard Schwartz, who will step down as chairman of the board and will take over the duties of acting CEO from Peter Bukowick, who will continue to serve as company president and chief operating officer.

Schwartz said Miller was chosen for his leadership, vision and extensive knowledge of the U.S. Department of Defense and the international marketplace.

During his Navy career, Miller was commander in chief of the Atlantic command, one of five U.S. theater commands, and served concurrently as NATO Supreme Allied Commander-Atlantic.

During Miller's four years with Litton Marine Systems and Sperry Marine Inc., sales have nearly doubled.

BALLARD MEDICAL DECLARES DIVIDEND OF 5 CENTS A SHARE

Ballard Medical Products, a Draper-based manufacturer and marketer of hospital disposable products, has declared a semi-annual cash dividend of 5 cents per share.

The dividend will be paid Jan. 5, 1999, to shareholders of record at the close of business on Dec. 16. The Ballard board of directors intends to declare a similar dividend about six months from the date of this dividend.

UTAH RELOCATION, OTHER FIRMS TEAM UP ON RECRUITMENT CD

Utah Relocation, a division of real estate brokerage Mansell & Associates, has joined with several local entities to produce an interactive CD designed to assist Utah corporations in their recruitment efforts.

"Utah Here & Now" introduces people to the state by providing a virtual tour of Utah. Evans & Sutherland, Iomega and the state of Utah partnered with Utah Relocation on the project.

The Economic Development Corp. of Utah is using the CD in its national business development efforts, while several local companies are using it to recruit employees.

CUSTOMERS SAVED $123,000 ON RX WITH SCRIPTSAVE CARD

Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah's new ScriptSave discount drug card program saved elderly customers $123,000 on 14,000 prescriptions during its first month of use, the company announced.

ScriptSave is a discount drug program for people who do not receive a prescription drug card with their health insurance coverage. It is able to provide savings by negotiating discounts with its 24,000 member pharmacies.
