Cordell Taylor, a welder-fabricator with the Phillips Gallery, works on a sculpture that will accent the TRAX light-rail Ballpark station, 250 W. 1300 South. More than a year remains before TRAX light-rail cars will actually begin picking up and discharging passengers at the station, but humanlike figures already are waiting thanks to Taylor. Taylor, 38, unveiled his version of a "queue" Wednesday -- three 10-foot tall, steel sculptures. "The three figures in the composition have this natural energy that makes them feel like they're moving, so it's like a visual sense of motion," Taylor said of his work. The statues are the first pieces to be installed as part of the Utah Transit Authority's Art in Transit Program. All six Salt Lake stations will be adorned by artistic creations.
