WEST VALLEY CITY -- 'Fess up. You've just been itching to tell those characters over at City Hall how they could make this town a better place to live.
But you really haven't had the time or opportunity, right?West Valley City residents won't be able to use that excuse again, not after a series of eight community outreach forums that will take place between Jan. 14 and April 22 in eight different sites.
Each meeting will cover a topic that concerns local residents, and everything is on the table from light rail and developing an identifiable city center to public safety, recreation, and rapid growth.
And city officials are assuring residents they will be the ones doing most of the talking.
"In the past, we used these meetings as more of an opportunity to inform people about issues," said Councilwoman Janice Fisher. "Now we want them to inform us."
The forums will be every other Thursday, alternating with regularly scheduled City Council meetings.
Councilwoman Barbara Thomas said the meetings are being held out in the community, rather than in City Hall, to help residents "feel more comfortable" about voicing their opinions.
