Leaders must be servants

Responding to Ted Phillips letter of Jan. 20. Frankly, I am shocked by Mr. Phillips' blatantly communistic views. I'm sure that Marx and Lenin would agree wholeheartedly. However, I doubt that our Founding Fathers would. As for the fact that the president of the United States makes far less money than the wealthy, this is exactly what our Founding Fathers envisioned. In fact their vision was for our leaders to be "public servants," not to be paid far in excess of what the average taxpayer earns, as they now are.

As for a "money cap" on what people can earn, who would set that cap? The government? What if that cap was set below your earnings, Mr. Phillips? Perhaps you would be considered among the "wealthy." Would you be willing to turn over what is determined to be "excess" to the government? The government already has far too much power over the people of this country. How dare you suggest that we turn even more of our rights over to them.
