Death: Mary LeRoy Tew

Mary LeRoy Tew, age 90, died January 29, 1998 at Cottonwood Hospital (SLC, UT) of natural causes.

She was born August 30, 1907 in Sunnyside, Carbon Co., Utah to Ammon and Mary Sanderson LeRoy. She married Burton Edwin Tew, Sr. Jan. 13, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.In her youth, she lived in Castle Gate and later in Mapleton. She graduated from Springville High School, and Brigham Young University. She was an accomplished piano player and taught school for several years. Always active in the LDS Church, she served a full-time mission in the Eastern States and worked in the LDS Genealogical Library in SLC prior to her marriage. She served in numerous callings throughout her life.

At age 39 Mary was married to Burton E. Tew, Sr. and had an instant family. Burton had five children with the late Leah Lundell Tew, ages 5-18. She and Burton raised their family in Talmage, Utah (Uintah Basin). Her latter years were mainly spent in Salt Lake City, Huntington, St. George, and Mesa, AZ., most recently in the home of her son, Burton, Jr. Plagued with crippling rheumatoid arthritis for over 30 years she was no stranger to pain, yet she never complained.

She will be remembered for her loving nature, generosity, kindness, gentleness, sweetness, humility, and patience. All who knew her, had utmost respect for her.

She is survived by sons and daughters, Burton E. (Louise) Tew, Jr., SLC; W. Fred (Sandra) Tew, Talmage; Norma Berntsen, SLC; Carolyn (Ted) McCandless, Huntington; John G. (Gloria) Tew, near Richmond, VA; and Thomas L. (Judy) Tew, Provo. Also survived by 35 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband (1979); daughter, Lynette, age 19 (1969); grandson, Barton Tew (Burton/Louise) age 7 (1969), and her four siblings.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, Feb. 3, 1998 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 So. Redwood Rd. SLC. Funeral services will be held Wed., Feb. 4 at 12 noon with viewing one hour prior at the White Chapel, 31 W. Mapel St., Mapleton, Utah. Interment Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, UT.
