Utah festival director named leader of group

R. Scott Phillips, the managing director of the Utah Shakespearean Festival, has been elected president of the Shakespeare Theatre Association of America. He was chosen at the association's annual business meeting Jan. 11 in Orlando, Fla., and will serve for one year.

Phillips has four goals while president: for the STAA to have more of a national prominence; to provide greater ethnic diversity in the organization; to recruit more member theaters, especially a handful of larger Shakespearean theaters that have not yet joined, and to create a brochure to help spread the word about the organization. The STAA was founded in 1990.
