Opportunity has finally come to the Skull Valley Band of Goshute Indians in the form of spent nuclear fuel coming from nuclear power plants in these United States. Private Fuel Storage, a consortium of utility companies, has proposed to place a temporary storage facility on our reservation. An overwhelming majority of tribal members have voted for the proposal given by Private Fuel Storage to store the spent fuel.
By our sovereignty alone, we can do this. We thank the U.S. government for this status. To those opposing Private Fuel Storage's proposal, be it tribal member or local government, or the governor's statement, "Leave it where it is," I believe they need to study the facts, scientific facts. The spent fuel, though dangerous, can be stored safely with established safety standards already in place. I say to Private Fuel Storage, don't be intimidated by those who oppose, for they know not the facts.Lawrence Bear
