Death: Eliufredo (Leo) Barela

Eliufredo Barela passed away February 11, 1998 at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.

He was born August 18, 1923 to Serafin and Elizaida Barela in Petaca, New Mexico where he met and married Maria Giron. Together they had six children. Retired from the Union Pacific Railroad. He will be remembered as a loving family man, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and best of all a friend. Leo loved to be outdoors, or to be helping someone. He lived a great life and it's hard to say good-bye, but he'll live on in our hearts and many memories. We know he's moved onto a beautiful place and that he finally found his glory because he left us with a smile.Survived by his wife, Maria Giron Barela; children, Fred (Maria) Barela, Lorraine (Isidore)Sanchez, Kathy (Richard) Warren, Karen (Polo) Ojeda, Marvin Barela; 27 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters,Serafin (Adelina) Barela, Espanola, NM; Feloniz (Solome) Roybal, Santa Fe, NM; Wille (Emiliana) Barela, Minturn, CO; Stella (Max) Torres Jr., Petaca, NM; Harvey (Edulia) Barela, Minturn, CO.

Preceded in death by sisters, Amalia Gurule and Felecita Pena.

A special thank you goes to Dr. Riley and his nurse, Carra, and to the staff of LDS Hospital 8th floor cancer unit.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 715 West 300 North where friends may call Friday, 6-8 p.m. with Rosary recited at 7 p.m. Interment, Taylorsville Cemetery. Under the direction of McDougal Funeral Home.
