Utahns can share the final hours of the 1998 Olympic Winter Games, when Nagano will hand off the torch to Salt Lake City, during a giant party at the Delta Center.
The Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the gala, which will take place Sunday, Feb. 22 from 4 to 10 p.m.The event is free with a ticket. Tickets can be picked up at any SmithTix location, with a limit of eight tickets per person.
The event will feature demonstrations of bobsled racing, speed skating, freestyle skiing and figure skating. There will also be a Peewee hockey game.
Figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi will be at the Delta Center early in the evening, signing autographs and greeting fans. The closing ceremony in Nagano will be shown live on the Delta Center's Jumbotron around 8 p.m. Activities will end with a balloon drop, a musical guest star and fireworks.
Olympic merchandise, along with a limited edition commemorative lapel pin, will be for sale, and the Delta Center's concession stands will be open.
The celebration is being sponsored by Smith's Food and Drug Centers, KUTV 2 News, the Delta Center, Jacor Broadcasting, Smith-Tix, the Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
