Death: Elda Poulson Smiley Muirbrook

lda Poulsen Smiley Muirbrook, 84, passed away on Feb.11, 1998 in St. George, Utah of heart failure.

She was born April 28, 1913 in Plain City, Utah to George Oscar and Julia Inez Knight Poulsen. She married William Francis Smiley on January 25, 1936. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 11, 1966. He died in 1969. She married Joseph Lorenzo Muirbrook on July 17, 1981. He died in 1992.Elda attended schools in Ogden and graduated from Weber College with a degree in Elementary Education. She worked at Shingletons sewing center for ten years. She graduated from the University of Utah in 1961 with a degree in Home Economics. She taught at Olympus and Skyline High Schools until her retirement. Elda loved to sew and was a superior seamstress. She was artistic and creative and could fix almost anything. She was devastated when macular degeneration robbed her of her eyesight.

She is survived by her two children, Sherril (David) Evans of St. George, UT and Dan Edmund (Jan) Smiley of Benecia, CA; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Edmund Shurtleff of Castro Valley, CA.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 17, 1998 at 12 Noon at the Grant LDS 4th Ward, 1111 Charlton Avenue, Salt Lake City, Utah. Friends may call Sunday, February 15, from 6-7p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary, 300 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah and Tuesday, February 17, from 11 - 12 noon at the chapel prior to services. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the University of Utah Research Center for Macular Degeneration.
