Jerri Duncan wears a box on her head during a rally for affordable housing Friday in the Capitol rotunda. Utahns deserve to live in houses, not boxes, said affordable housing advocates and supporters. Some brought miniature cardboard-box houses. Others held signs reading "houses, not freeways" and "affordable housing is a basic right." They want state lawmakers to put more money into affordable housing programs, turn Olympic housing into low-cost dwellings after the 2002 Games and encourage Utah cities and counties to allow more high-density housing developments. "If you're not going to lead, please follow us or get out of the way," Barbara Toomer, a longtime advocate for people with disabilities, said of lawmakers during Friday's rally. About 75 people attended the event.
