Cattleman chops $4 million off claim of Oprah's damage

One of the Texas cattlemen suing Oprah Winfrey for defamation on Friday lowered his estimate of the damage he says she caused him by almost $4 million.

While sticking by his initial claim of $4.5 million, Bill O'Brien offered an alternate calculation, saying he lost $525,000 in actual sales in the three months after the program was shown in April 1996. The higher figure was calculated differently - it was based on his estimate of the decline in value of his herd after the show.O'Brien's restructured damage claims were made public as the cattlemen rested their case after 18 days of testimony.
