Caption only: S.L. library gala is heart-y Valentine event

Austin Eversole, 3, of Bountiful, wields blunt-end scissors as he crafts a Valentine card Saturday during festivities marking the centennial of the Salt Lake City Library. Other events included a lecture by Jerry Mallett, curator of the Mazza Galleria in Findlay, Ohio. A traveling exhibit from the museum, "Once Upon a Page: The Art of Children's Books" will be on display at the library through March 28. The daylong celebration also featured storytelling, clowns, magicians, Peter Rabbit and other costumed characters from books. Each branch of the Salt Lake City Library system served cake and punch and featured exhibits of historical photographs, which focused on neighborhoods surrounding each library. The photo exhibits continue through March 31. An evening anniversary ball at the Main Library was expected to draw 250 guests, including members of the Salt Lake City Council and U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah.
