Motorist critically injured when he's thrown from Jeep

A man was critically injured when he landed head first in the street in a road accident Saturday night.

A car hit George McVey's Jeep on the driver's side as he attempted to make a left turn on 200 S. State about 7:45 p.m., police said. McVey was trying to turn west onto 200 South from State Street."He hit the passenger's seat and broke it off," said Salt Lake Police Lt. Arthur Healey. "He and the seat went out the passenger's side and landed on the road. He landed head first."

Paramedics transported McVey to LDS Hospital, where he remained in critical condition Saturday night. The man wasn't wearing a seat belt, Healey said.

The driver of the other vehicle was uninjured, he said. Detectives are investigating to determine what color the lights were when McVey attempted the turn.
