Expansion of UTA's area of service nears approval

A bill allowing Utah Transit Authority buses to be used outside the agency's six-county district is one step away from becoming law.

The Senate sent HB238 on to Gov. Mike Leavitt with a 25-2 vote Friday. The measure allows local recreation, tourist or convention bureaus to request the use of UTA buses but only if it cannot contract with a local or other commercial bus service.

The bill opens the way for UTA buses to serve Park City venues during the 2002 Winter Games.
