Death: Clarence Smith ""Smitty"" Dent

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on Sept. 28, 1932 to Clarence William and Mary Willie Smith Dent, passed away on Feb. 14, 1998 at the age of 65.

Smitty married Marilyn Peterson April 21, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Following his service in the U.S. Army (1950-1952), Smitty began a career in commercial aviation that spanned over 33 years. He was hired by Western Airlines in 1959 as a First Officer, and retired in 1992 as an International L-1011 Captain with Delta Airlines.Smitty was a member of the LDS Church, and served in various positions throughout his life including stake missionary, ward and stake clerk, and branch counselor.

Smitty especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His family was the most important part of his life. They enjoyed boating, camping, and many other activities together.

Smitty is survived by his brother, Mitchell, and his sister, Virginia. He is also survived by Marilyn-his loving wife of 47 years; their five children, Raymond Smith, Cathryn, Lorayne, Julie and William Curtis; and their ten grandchildren, Craig, Leland, Joseph, Andrew, Benjamen, Rachel, Jason, Clarisse, Stephen, and Cathryn.

He is remembered by his family as a devoted and loving husband and father. He will also be remembered by his friends and associates for his loyalty and integrity.

Funeral services Saturday, Feb. 21, at 12 noon, at Valley Oaks LDS Chapel, with Bishop Loren Southworth officiating. Funeral directors, Pierce Bros. Valley Oaks Memorial Park.
