Speaking up is a duty

Ah, Daniel L. Cooper, resident of rural "Happy Valley." I thank you for the personal attack on my stated opinion about the conditions on west I-215 in the Dec. 17 forum. I consider myself to be "grown up"' and definitely not "helpless." As a citizen of these United States, I have a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If the "government" is partly responsible to see that I indeed can have life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, then I have an obligation to stand up and speak, or write what I believe to be wrong. Now if that is considered "whining," then whine I will.

Safer highways and roads is a responsibility of the state. The state's responsibility is not to "cull the population;" that responsibility lies with a much higher authority. So when unsafe conditions exist that threaten life, that we have very little control over, then we have a right to voice feelings that reflect our stand so that appropriate action might take place to make this a better place to continue life.Linda Barber
