Alcohol and drugs apparently played a role in a rollover crash that injured three people Sunday night, police say.
None of the victims' names has been released.About 7:15 p.m., a northbound Saturn on I-15 near 7200 South was sideswiped by an Infiniti traveling between 85 mph and 90 mph, said Utah Highway Patrol trooper D. Maycock.
The impact caused both cars to spin out of control and hit a concrete barrier, Maycock said. The Infiniti rolled over the barrier, ejecting a male passenger and trapping the female driver and a female passenger for more than 30 minutes.
The victim ejected from the car, who had not been wearing a seat belt, was taken to University Hospital by medical helicopter with severe head trauma, Maycock said. The two female victims were taken to Cottonwood Hospital by ambulance after they were extricated by emergency personnel.
The driver of the Saturn, whose name was not released, was saved from injury by an air bag. Police say there were signs of alcohol and drug use in the Saturn.
