New charges of sex abuse against ex-Sandy teacher

New charges of sexual abuse were filed last week against a former Jordan High School teacher already charged with sexually abusing one of his 16-year-old male students.

Jordan Steadman, 25, Sandy, was charged with fondling a 10-year-old boy in the victim's home last summer. According to the new charges, Steadman admitted to the victim's sister that he fondled the boy and "said that he'd done it before and that he had been accused of touching two boys from Jordan High School."Steadman was charged with sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

He already faces charges of forcible sexual abuse, also a second-degree felony, in a November incident in which charging documents say he fondled the teenage boy while visiting him in his home.

Steadman taught Spanish and physical education at the high school until Dec. 3, when the first allegations surfaced. Steadman was put on administrative leave, according to Jordan School District spokesman Melinda Rock. He resigned Jan. 15.
