Holy Cross sister named to head diocese schools

Holy Cross Sister Catherine Kamphaus has been appointed as the new superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Salt Lake City. She will replace Rev. Joseph M. Mayo, who will continue as pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish.

Sister Kamphaus will direct the 12-facility Catholic school system. Two more Catholic schools are under construction and will open in the fall of 1999.She brings more than 30 years of experience in Catholic education to the job. Currently, she is principal of Blessed Sacrament Elementary School in Sandy and has been principal of Our Lady of Lourdes in Salt Lake City. She has also taught school in other states and has a master's degree in private school administration.
