George Alden Brinton, 80, passed away peacefully February 23, 1998.
Born December 11, 1917 in Salt Lake City, to Hyrum Alden Brinton and Edna Elizabeth Cardwell. Due to the early passing of his father, he was raised by a devoted stepfather, Parley Mantle and was known as George Mantle by friends and family until graduating from South High.George fulfilled an LDS Mission to Argentina in 1938, which was a highlight of his life. He was a 1st Lt. in the USAF during World War II and flew on several historic bombing missions. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal, and others. His interest in aviation continued for 30 years with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), where he worked as an air traffic controller and later as a military liaison.
Married Louise Helmken Reymann, June 6, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was extremely devoted to his wife of 44 years until her passing in January, 1998. He missed her dearly. Now they're together again.
He was a High Priest in the LDS Church. Callings included: scoutmaster, bishopric, high priest group leader, extractor, temple worker and 4th of July breakfast director. His cheerful supportive nature touched many lives. He will be missed by all who knew him - especially his grateful sons and daughters. Thanks for always being there. Dad!
Survived by brother, Ray (Donna) Mantle; seven children, Herbert G. (Nancy) Brinton, Ted R. (Jana) Brinton, David A. (Jeri) Brinton, Richard A. (Natalie) Brinton, Mary (Fred) Tuttle, Carol (Steve) Persch, Barbara (Kirk) Lund; 34 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, Louise R. Brinton, brother, Kenny Mantle, sisters, Dorothy (Jack) McDonald, Alice (Duke) Hibbert and two grandchildren, Stephen and Barbara Brinton.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 26, 1998 in the Monument Park 10th Ward Chapel, 1930 South 2100 East. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive and at the ward on Thursday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
