On February 20, 1998 a tragic auto accident took the lives of Joseph and Karen along with three other family members while traveling home from a family vacation.

Joseph and Karen were married on February 17th 1962 in the Manti LDS temple.Joseph Lamar Jewkes, Jr was born December 13, 1939 in Price, Utah to Joseph L., Sr. and Thelma Mathis Jewkes. He currently was Deputy Director for the BLM in Utah and had worked in the Denver, and Washington, D.C. areas.

Active member LDS church serving as Sunday School Pres., High Priest Group Leader, Seventies Leader, Young Mens President, Home Teacher and performed genealogy research. He loved to sing in the choir and was a devoted Father and Husband.

Karen Kay Atwood Jewkes was born Dec. 25, 1942 in Price, Utah to Clemont A. and Leora Mae Pierce Atwood. She was an active member LDS church holding numerous positions in the Young Womens, Relief Society Presidency, and worked in the genealogy program. A very diligent Mother and Wife. Always working to serve others in every way that she knew how.

She loved to be with her family.

Joseph and Karen are survived by their children Karalee (Melvin), Melannie (Burton), Bryan (Jennifer), Nathan, Jennifer (John), Justin (Aimee), Emily, David, and Jonathan; seven grandchildren and two granddaughters. They were preceded in death by a son, Barry.

Joseph is also survived by his parents, Joseph L., Sr. and Thelma Mathis Jewkes and sisters, Carolyn and Marianne.

Karen is also survived by brothers, Ronald, Brent, Gary, and Bruce; sisters, Ruthann Dinkleman (Jay). Karen's parents, Clemont A. and Leora Mae Pierce Atwood along with her sister, Cleora Mae also passed away due to the accident.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, Feb. 25th, 1998, 1 p.m., Sandy Utah East Stake Center, 9636 So. 1700 East, where friends may call Wednesday 10 - 12:30. Additional visitation will be held Friday, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Price 8th Ward, 995 E. 700 North. Interment, Price City Cemetery Friday. Funeral Directors, Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary.
