Senate gets a bill to allow advertising in Utah schools

A bill that would encourage the study of commercial advertising as a revenue source for the state's public schools has been forwarded to the Senate.

SB203, sponsored by Mike Dmitrich, D-Price, asks the state school board and local boards to study the issue and, if feasible, develop a plan for the state's public schools. Some of the recommended study issues include standardized advertising rates, appropriate messages in advertising and use of advertising revenues, such as reducing class sizes or teacher pay raises.

Dmitrich said Carbon School District students brought the issue to his attention. Some schools permit advertising in schools.
