Gwen N. Symes has been named vice president and manager of First Security Bank's branch at 79 S. Main. She formerly was manager of the bank's east Broadway office. Franklin N. Smith has joined the law firm of Van Cott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy as of counsel in the Salt Lake office and a member of the litigation section. Bob Miller has been named commercial loan officer in the Salina office of Zions First National Bank. He came to the bank from Cal-Utah Feeders Inc., Delta, where he was comptroller. Nathan S. Hatch has been promoted to vice president of worldwide marketing for Caldera Inc., He has 10 years of marketing and management experience in the computer industry. Sharon Opfermann, human resources manager for the law firm of Jones, Waldo, Holbrook & McDonough, has been elected president of the Salt Lake Society for Human Resource Management. Karen Child has been hired by Scopes-Garcia-Carlisle Advertising and Public Relations as a public relations coordinator.
