Bus bench advertising was officially deleted in Orem Tuesday night.

The City Council voted unanimously to support backing away from city ordinances that would have allowed the off-premise advertising within the community in any zone.Stanford Sainsbury, director of development services, said the staff prepared the paperwork based on direction given in a recent work session with the council.

He said staff member Steve Weber has been asked to keep in contact with Utah Transit Authority officials to monitor the progress of getting bus benches and shelters at various stops in Orem.

"We fully intend to go forward," said City Manager Jim Reams.

Councilwoman Judy Bell said she wants bus passengers to have the dignity of a seat while they wait for buses, even if the city doesn't want the benches to serve as sites for signage.
