Mary Madelyn Fasco

Iacona, age 80, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, died February 22, 1998 peacefully at home with her family.

She was born on March 17, 1917 in Ticonderoga, New York to Carlo and Theresa Fosco. She married Charles J. Iacona, her husband of 54 years, on September 4, 1943 in Albandy, New York.A devout Catholic, she attended St. Mary's Catholic Church and graduated in 1935 from Ticonderoga High School. She and Charlie were married in 1943 and in 1950, they moved to Salt Lake City where they lived for twenty-one years. She was an active member of St. Ambrose Parish in Salt Lake City. She also served in various volunteer capacities in aiding the faculty at J.E. Cosgriff Elmentary School, Judge Memorial High School and St. Mary's of the Wasatch High School.

In 1977, Mary and Charlie retired and settled in St. George, Utah. Mary was very active in the Catholic Community and was one of the founders of the St. George Catholic Thrift Shop where she volunteered every Tuesday afternoon until recently, due to failing health. Mary was honored by the Salt Lake Diocese in 1984 as the Catholic Woman of the Year. She was actively involved in organizing the communion mass held semi-annually for the women of the parish. Mary will be missed by all who knew her, especially her family.

Mary is survived by her husband, Charlie; son, C.J. (Karin) Iacona of Salt Lake City, Utah; daughters: Leila (Tom) Burns of Porterville, California and Carla Iacona of Michigan City, Indiana; grandchildren: Tifny and Andy (Kelli) Iacona, and Amanda, Allison, and Patrick Burns and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 26, 1998 at 10 a.m. at the St. George Catholic Church. Friends may call Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:15 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary after which a Rosary will be held at 8:15 p.m. following visitation. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery.
