Lew Wasserman will give $10 million to UCLA so that poor youngsters might have something he never had - a chance at college.
Over a five-year period, the former Universal Studios chairman will donate $8.75 million for scholarships to the University of California, Los Angeles, and $1.25 million in property and funds for other purposes, the school said Monday."We'd like the scholarships to go to the people who really need them," Wasserman said. "I am trying to make happen for others what wasn't available to me."
Wasserman, who has made substantial gifts to other schools, graduated from high school in Cleveland in 1930 but could not afford college because of the Depression.
