Carole I. Scott, 64, mayor of Manila, Daggett County, from January 1982 until December 1997 and the first woman elected president of the Utah League of Cities and Towns, died Feb. 23, 1998, of cancer at her home in Manila.
Services for Mrs. Scott, who had been ill about five years, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Senior Citizens Center, 100 East and U-43, in Manila.A native of San Diego, the mayor had worked the past 16 years to improve facilities and living conditions for Manila citizens. While she was mayor a new firehouse and town office was built. Also, the Senior Citizens Center was enlarged and remodeled, new sewer lagoons completed, old water lines replaced, a drainage system installed and the Longs Park water line was put in place.
The mayor had served or was serving on many local and state committees. She was secretary-treasurer of the Municipal Finance Agency, a member of the Utah Rural Water Association Board, the American Water Works Association,the Utah Safe Drinking Water Board, and the Utah Aging and Adult Services Advisory Council.
