His daughter's birthday request - and Utah's famous skiing - are finally bringing President Clinton to the Beehive State.
The White House said Wednesday Clinton plans to visit Utah and stay in Park City from Thursday to Sunday.A spokeswoman said the trip is at the request of Chelsea Clinton, who wants to celebrate her 18th birthday Friday on Utah's ski slopes - instead of staying in California for parents' weekend at Stanford University, where she is a freshman.
The White House said initial plans were for the first family to stay at a private residence.
Clinton has never been seen skiing as president - or as governor of Arkansas. First lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, however, went skiing earlier this month while attending a conference in Switzerland.
Clinton suffered a knee injury last year during a fall at the Florida home of professional golfer Greg Norman, which left him on crutches for weeks. But the White House has said he has fully recovered, so he could likely join his daughter skiing if he chooses.
Utah is one of the last states that Clinton will visit as president. Of course, it was the only state where Clinton finished third (behind President Bush and independent Ross Perot) in 1992.
And Utah tied with Kansas for giving Clinton the lowest percentage of votes in any state that year.
Utah Republicans have also blasted Clinton recently for never having visited the controversial 1.7 million-acre Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.
