LaVina (Harper) Johnson beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, sister and friend died peacefully February 23, 1998.

Born of pioneer stock to Amanda Ellen Herbst and Chester A. Harper in Big Cottonwood, Utah. She married James Lee Johnson on October 27, 1930, in Blackfoot, Idaho. The marriage was later solemnized in the Oakland Temple.Widowed in 1962, she continued to be the heart of the Johnson family which includes James L. Johnson, Janice E. Carlile (Glen) and Marian D. Hicks, nine beautiful grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The eldest of six children, she is survived by two sisters: Mrs. Emma Tweedie and Mrs. Anna Winslow. Preceding her in death were her sister, Mrs. Mary Conrad and her brothers, Mr. Edwin Harper and Mr. Le Roy Harper.

LaVina worked her entire life as a teacher, and her greatest joy was to teach a child to read. Her courage, independence, pride and humor were a continual inspiration to those who knew her and loved her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday February 28, 1998 at 12 noon at the Heber City Eighth Ward (176 W. 500 S.) where friends may call Saturday morning from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Interment will be in the Heber City Cemetery. Services in the care of Olpin Mortuary, Heber City.
