BRANDON BROSCHINSKY, Copper Hills: The senior had a big game against Bingham last Friday to lead the Grizzlies to the Region 2 basketball championship. It was Copper Hills' first region title in its three-year history.
Broschinsky scored 18 points, including the game-winning basket, in Friday's 58-57 overtime win over the Miners.Broschinsky leads Copper Hills in scoring (14.1 ppg) and rebounding (seven rpg).
"For three years, he's just been a fantastic kid. We just love to have him in our program," said Copper Hills coach John Bosco. "He's just been fabulous."
Bosco said his 6-6 center, who has a 3.6 GPA, is very effective even though he doesn't get many plays designed for him.
"All year we've probably called about 10 plays for him," he said. "He's the ultimate team player."
KELLI FROST, Tooele: Junior diver claimed a couple of championships at the 3A div
ing meet earlier this month.
Frost won her third straight individual championship by scoring 476.50 points, besting her near-est opponent by a whopping 42 points.
In doing so, she also led the Buffaloes to their second consecutive team diving crown.
"She's quite the gal," said Tooele diving coach Mel Roberts. "She's very dedicated to diving."
Roberts said he's been impressed by how Frost has improved her natural talents.
"She has the body and coordination that a diver needs," he said, "but she also has the desire to develop that. She's got a good combination."
Frost, who also plays on Tooele's soccer team, carries a 3.6 GPA. She's being recruited by Stanford and Minnesota.
